Facebook Blamed For 1 In 5 Divorces In UK

Is technology ruining the British family? Hardly! Nevertheless, social networking giant Facebook has been cited in almost one in five of divorce petitions in the United Kingdom, lawyers said this week. The siteis being blamed for an increasing number of marital splits, according to one new study. Suspicious spouses also use Facebook — to find evidence of flirting and affairs. Video after the jump.

One law firm in Britain claims almost one in five petitions they processed in 2009 cited Facebook.

“I had heard from my staff that there were a lot of people saying they had found out things about their partners on Facebook and I decided to see how prevalent it was I was really surprised to see 20 percent of all the petitions containing references to Facebook,” Mark Keenan, Managing Director of Divorce-Online said.
