Apple iPad: Not so magical

gallery-software-safari-20100127
Just finished watching Steve Jobs unveil the new Apple iPad. One of the most hyped up device from Apple since the iPhone. By the way iPad? Sounds like a feminine hygiene product. Steve Jobs has got to be the best salesperson ever. Hearing him talk up the device just make you want to open up your wallet. I’m not going to go in depth on the device here. Just my general immediate reaction. The iPad is supposed to fit in between the iPhone and a laptop. Overall not too impressed with the device. Nothing breathtaking was really unveiled, just another way to view your media and the internet in a simpler way in tablet format. Basically a huge iPod touch for now. I was hoping it would run Mac OS X. Another disappointment is the lack of multitasking, video or sms capabilities. Should have at least offered it on the top of the line model. A person that already has a smartphone or a laptop really has no use for this device. Furthermore on the Apple promotional videos it is touted as the best web browsing experience, but it can’t display flash media? The only thing that got me really surprised was the pricing of the device and the data plan price with AT&T. It starts at $499 and goes up to $829 and unlimited data and free wifi at AT&T hot spots for $29.99 a month. Great deal with AT&T if you find coverage. The iPad is priced just rite so people at home can buy multiple units. Which is probably why investors are loving the device. But what the iPad though is a great platform. The apps built for this device will probably be what will make it great by the time it is released to the public. Since I am a tech geak ill probably end up getting one. More images and video after the jump.

check out this MAD TV skit with the iPad.
