Here are two interesting charts on American spending after the whole recession started. Americans have cut back overall but have increased spending in the communication sector. Communication related fields such as smartphones has gone up due to the social networking boom. Spending has gone up in healthcare, education and housing and cut backs were felt hard on clothing and footwear (sucks for me), and entertainment spending.
